WHAT IS IT?
According to the Committee for Children, “Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success.”
To develop self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills, we can explore Mindfulness and activities that teach us to acknowledge feelings, anxiety, failure, and make them part of human experience. Most importantly, we need to acquire tools to help us deal with depression, anxiety, behavior issues, and have a better conversation about who we are and what our strength is.
Developing Mindfulness is a vital part of social-emotional learning because mindfulness is the ability to be present, aware of where we are, and what we’re doing.
We all have mindfulness, but it becomes more available to us when we practice it daily. Research shows that depression, anxiety, and behavior issues can be tackled if mindful conversations happen between adults and children every day.
The “Mindfulness Activities & Practices” will help you start or continue a conversation about self-awareness, emotions, stress management in your classroom. 10 – 15 minutes a day or a week in a classroom or at home will make a huge transformation in how your kids perceive themselves, how they are able to recognize their feelings, and use the tools to help them manage stressful situations.
The resource includes social-emotional / mindfulness learning activities, strategies, worksheets in a convenient PDF format. It will help answer such questions as:
-how to recognize feelings?
-what “personal mounters” do we fear?
-how are our social roles can contribute to anxiety?
-how do we feel every day?
-what can help to lower worry and anxiety?
-can some words hurt?
-how can we bond?
-how to we deal with failure?
